Frequently Asked Questions
South Jersey Select (SJS) Lacrosse is a premier girls lacrosse program with more than 20 years of history dedicated to player development, competitive excellence and helping athletes reach their next level. SJS provides a development-first environment that balances high-level training, access to the strongest recruiting tournaments and a positive team culture.
Players participate in a year-round schedule that has two primary seasons; fall and summer. Our schedule supports multi-sport athletes and the club believes that girls should participate in multiple sports and activities to make them more well rounded athletes and people.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SEASON LOOK LIKE AT SJS?
This is a more robust schedule than previous years. This will be new going into 2026 - 2027.
FALL
Sept - Oct | Estimated 7 - 8x practices depending on the tournament schedule. Practices start in September. 6x training sessions during the week.
Oct - Nov | 3 Tournaments on the weekend
WINTER
Jan - Feb | 6x 4 Square training sessions during the week or weekend depending on indoor availability
SPRING
All High School athletes will play with their school teams.
All Youth Athletes are encouraged to participate in their local recreation programs.
Teams will have the opportunity to participate in their local NGLL Region depending on interest and availability from teammates.
SUMMER
May - June | Estimated 10 - 12x practices. Practices typically start the second or third weekend in May for youth players and after Memorial Weekend for high school players due to the high school schedule.
June - July | 4 tournaments on the weekend. We work to have youth teams end no later than the last weekend in June. Most high school teams end the second or third weekend in July.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR PINK AND BLACK TEAM?
SJS rosters are structured with a Pink (A) Team and a Black (B) Team at each age group. Both teams receive the same high-quality practice and training opportunities and are coached with the same development standards and expectations. Due to the high number of players who try out each year, we are able to field two highly competitive teams that attend the same tournaments while competing in different brackets based on level. Our Black teams are consistently very strong - often comparable to, or stronger than, neighboring clubs’ A teams - because of the overall competitiveness of the SJS player pool and our long-standing history of outstanding and effective player development.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WHEN SELECTING PLAYERS TO YOUR ROSTERS?
PINK Team Roster Spot
A PINK (A) Team roster spot on SJS is for players who are currently performing at the highest level within their age group. These players demonstrate strong lacrosse IQ, advanced technical skills, competitiveness and consistency. PINK Team players typically compete in the most competitive divisions and events, face top-level opponents and are expected to train and compete at a high standard. Placement on the PINK Team reflects current performance and readiness, not long-term potential alone.
B Team Roster Spot
A BLACK (B) Team roster spot on SJS is for players who show strong potential and commitment to development but may still be building consistency, confidence or specific skill sets. The BLACK Team competes in appropriate, competitive divisions with a focus on growth, fundamentals, and continued improvement. Players on the BLACK Team receive quality coaching, meaningful playing opportunities and clear development goals, with the opportunity to earn advancement as they progress.
Important Note
Team placement is fluid and evaluated throughout the season. Our goal is to place each player in an environment where they can be challenged appropriately, develop effectively and enjoy the game while preparing for future competitive opportunities.
DOES SJS SUPPORT MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES?
Yes! SJS fully supports and encourages multi-sport athletes. We believe that playing multiple sports helps athletes develop better overall athleticism, reduces burnout and fosters a long-term love of competition. Our approach is designed to be collaborative, allowing players to pursue other sports while still benefiting from high-quality lacrosse training and development.
SJS understands that families and athletes balance multiple commitments, including academics and other sports. While we encourage consistent participation to support development and team chemistry, our focus remains on providing a positive, supportive environment where athletes can manage their schedules responsibly. Communication is key!
WHEN IS PAYMENT TAKEN FOR THE PROGRAM? CAN YOU PAY VIA INSTALLMENTS?
New payment structure for the 2026 - 2027 Season. We will also be migrating to TeamSnap.
When accepting a spot on the team, we take a deposit. The remaining payments will run automatically every month until the balance is paid in full. We take 10 installments through the year, August through May. Installments is the default option when registering through TeamSnap.
Payments are automatically withdrawn from your account through TeamSnap. All payments must be made through TeamSnap.
DO YOU OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS?
Yes, we offer scholarships on a needs basis. We do not want a player to miss out on the opportunity to play with us due to a financial hardship. Please reach out to the Director to discuss your needs.
